Kate Bosworth is one of many young actresses who beg the question – will she become the megastar that the media so badly wants her to be? In Kate’s case, you can safely answer yes, if her head-turning film roles are any indication. In addition to being jaw-droppingly gorgeous, Bosworth has shown Hollywood that she has acting chops to match her looks, with impressive performances in films like “Beyond the Sea” and “Bee Season”.
Bosworth was born on January 3, 1983 in Los Angeles, California. She spent most of her youth in the Northeast, living in Darien, Connecticut and Cohasset, Massachusetts. She was a top-notch student in the Massachusetts town, and learned Spanish while playing soccer and lacrosse. Her exceptional equestrian abilities led her to her first audition – for a small role in Robert Redford’s “The Horse Whisperer”. She nabbed the role of Scarlett Johansson’s best friend in the film, which led her to a meaty supporting role in the smash hit football inspirational “Remember the Titans”. She then finished high school and deferred her admission to Princeton University to pursue more movie roles in Los Angeles.
Her breakthrough came in 2002 with “Blue Crush”, a mildly successful girls surfing flick that co-starred Michelle Rodriguez and Matthew Davis. The film was surprisingly good considering its rather frivolous subject matter, and it was arguably Bosworth’s earnest performance that made it stand out amidst the hordes of teen-oriented alternative sports movies. But regardless of the film’s merit, Bosworth was a star on the rise, and soon appeared in “The Rules of Attraction”, the Val Kilmer-starring “Wonderland”, “Win a Date with Tad Hamilton”, and the Kevin Spacey vanity project “Beyond the Sea”, a biopic of Bobby Darin. The latter film was poorly received by critics and ignored by audiences, but Bosworth came out of it with some huge raves for her performance as Sandra Dee. In 2005 she again received good reviews for her performance as a Hare Krishna in the indie “Bee Season”.
Bosworth will achieve new heights of fame this summer playing Lois Lane in the long-delayed return of the “Superman” franchise. Her love life is a constant source of media speculation, and she has been linked to actors Matt Czuchry and Orlando Bloom.
